Save some extra dough and get a RX100 and an Eye-Fi card instead. I've shot quite a bit with my RX100 and liking it a lot.

This looks more flexible, and innovative, I like innovation.

That new convertible laptop is pretty darn cool. As far as the two smartphone lens camera thing, I'm not entirely sure about its execution. I'll have to check it out and see how it feels when mounted to the back of my phone vs my Rx100.

I had about the same reaction.
"Oh sweet! That's a pretty cool idea."
"Wait, it's more than $300?"
"Oh, never mind."

I was thinking I Saw a VAIO Duo on the scond vid.
Do not buy that. I own one.
The battery is woeful, keyboard is useless, joystik even more useless, and it's kinda heavy for a tablet.
Anyway, the detachable camera is cool.
But I just want to get the phone, Xperia Z1.
A.K.A Hoonami!
*admit it, Hoonami is way much cooler than A Honami/Z1

I like it too, but from this video (the first time I've seen it) I notice:
a. lots of lag in the live view
b. really awkward ergonomics when attached to the phone.
The specs I read said 1440X1080p30 for video...which is useless, but it says here 1080p....so technically I guess it is 1080p, maybe it just had a pixel aspect ratio...something i thought we had gotten past...sigh.

Let me know when it comes in a collapsible spyglass form factor, which probably makes more ergonomic sense.
I think I'd rather have NFC enabled dedicated camera with Android connectivity instead of a bizarre attachment that costs as much as a proper camera. It's the wrong balance of portability and picture quality.

Those are not Vaio Duoos, those are mainstream laptops that adopted and improved on the solution that the Duo came up with, that's why innovations are so awesome, they can filter down to mainstream products, contributing to the progress of a whole segment.
On the phone, just got an Xperia Z in May, they will need to make something more impressive than the Z1, to make me buy a new phone so soon.

I'm thinking to get the QX10, and if I'm happy with that, I will get the high end QX, when the second generation comes up.

I'm not a photo junkie, so it will be good enough for my needs.

Yeah, but it got personality, it is more interesting than just a camera.

and thats certainly what they are banking on, but isn't that...by definition...a novelty?
09/05/2013 at 12:59 |

No, this is a novelty item.
That's just a cool gadget, that is by definition...a gadget, you don't really need it, and something less interesting would do the job too, but you want it because is cool and offers many fun possibilities, not to mention that like any other innovation, it can evolve into things that will really make waves. The same goes for cars, a Prius does the job of getting you to the places you need to go, but do you really want it, or you want something that offers more fun?

a non-prius is a gadget?
I still think this camera is an interesting concept, but it seems to have too many fundamental flaws to be of use to anyone other than someone looking to try something new. Here is the biggest: whos is going to carry it with them as often as their phone? The reason the phone is replacing the compact camera is because its with us 100% of the time, which means when the moment strikes, we have a camera, albeit a bad one, at the ready. Who is going to cart one of these around with them all day every day? in which case, why not just get an RX100 II for the same (roughly) money and get the added benefit of the true camera? As a remote movie camera, I think this idea rocks, but as a stills camera? im not sure I see the point outside of, "its just different"

Yep, in the car world, sports cars are gadgets, because they are more expensive and less practical than normal cars, and are about looking cool and having fun.
And, with the QX camera, you can do group pictures, with you being in the picture, not to mention that it would fit pretty well among the other crap one can carry around.

well, you've lost me, as I believe that the ">basic transportation = gadget" argument is about as valid as "anything more than a basic point and shoot camera is a gadget...after all, the P&S will take pictures just like a 5d? so why bother spending the money?" Also, how does this allow you to take group pictures better than any other camera? Its round and doesn't have a way to mount it to anything so you can't leave it on a rock or table, and a regular camera has whats known as a "timer" plus many camera's have NFC, WIFI and remote control as well, so I don't see the argument there.
